Oxwall 1.7.3 is out

Oxwall 1.7.3 is available for download immediately. Complete changelog can be found here. Important: This release drops support for PHP 5.2, so BEFORE you attempt to upgrade, make sure your hosting supports PHP 5.3. Important #2: If you are running Oxwall of any previous version, you are encouraged to wait until the auto-update prompt appears in your admin area. Before you attempt it, make sure to:

  • Back up your website. Seriously, folks, better safe than sorry;
  • Run the platform update first, only after that run all available plugin updates;
  • Run theme update also only after the platform update.

If you don’t want to perform the update yourself, check companies specializing in Oxwall support. Thanks, Oxwall team.

  1. A much needed update, keep up the good work Oxwall…. 🙂 And yeah Hoping CMS to come this year to the family… 🙂

  2. Don’t let the negative consumers flag you for your work over the past few months. I assume most of them are used to much larger teams working on their software and CMS. I appreciate you taking the time to weed out bugs with some updates. I believe if you try a bit harder to communicate that your next update will be just bug fixes via-social networks and oxwall.org this complication will be less likely the next time. The last update was in February about admin panel which as a consumer they would assume this is the next update coming out. So just for future reference toss out some mini newsletters or blog posts about the next update being bug fixes. One news update a month would be a much nicer choice even if it is not that big just tag them at the end with “When the next big platform changes are coming you will be the first to know here on Oxwall’s blog” To avoid running into the people who lack patience.

    Thanks again Oxwall team,

    • Thank you for your suggestions. I agree, we could be more informative about the upcoming releases.

  3. Well, it’s great seeing the option to update plugins within the admin panel because it means there could be new features, so I did it. What I didn’t see was a link that said come read the blog before you update any plugins because they could be related to some platform update that is going to mess up your entire site. So sadly, that’s exactly what it did.

Now my site doesn’t appear except for a bunch of links, and everything else is white. I get the following error:
Fatal error: Class ‘WyswygRequiredValidator’ not found in /home/bandnook/public_html/ow_plugins/mailbox/classes/new_message_form.php on line 86

So I’ll guess that there is a Wyswyg editor added as a standard feature now and I don’t have it, so my whole site doesn’t work as a result. Since I can’t get to my admin area to install the platform update… I can’t fix the issue.

Any idea on what I can do to resolve the issue?

It was indeed the messages plugin called “mailbox” within the ow_plugins folder on the server that messed things up.

The solution, should anyone else experience issues regarding plugin conflicts:

      1. Get into your server using your FTP client.
      2. Traverse to your plugins folder
      3. Find the plugin that is creating a conflict
4 Drag that folder for that plugin out to your desktop and ensure that it is there.
      5. Go back to your FTP client and hover over that plugins folder again and right click.
      6. Select delete and delete the plugin.
      7. Keep your FTP client open.
8 Go to your Oxwall site and install the latest platform update 1.7.3
      9. Go back to your FTP client and drag the plugin that you removed back into the ow_plugins directory where you removed it from.

With any great luck, this solves your problem, and from now on you will look at the Oxwalll Blog before updating anything, and always create a back up before hand as well… Like I didn’t.

      I’m a bad bad boy.

  4. I did not see where the Geolocation plugin is in the demo. I want to test it if that’s the one i was looking for like a record of places i’ve been to or it’s just where the user posted from.

Also, i didn’t see the fix for chat/messages where the message notification does not disappear when i click on the messages. Did that get fixed? Just now in version 1.7.2 the message notification does not disappear and the numer of notification still keeps displaying even when i read all messages. I even deleted a bunch of messages/chat conversations and it’s still there.

In any case it’s good to see that you fixed the display of browsed photos alignment and spacing in IE and Firefox if that’s what i am thinking about. I am yet to test the new upgrade.

I know there were some more fixes i was thinking about or ran into, but i can’t think of them right now. Thanks.

  5. By the way, the other bug is if a user posted a photo through image URL in newsfeed, it will not pop up in the lightbox. You have to refresh the page before it will display in lightbox photo viewer.

    • Please report all problems that you found in the forum, we’ll be able to help you there. Thanks.

  6. Randy, is that issue being worked by Oxwall team or is it the newest wysiwyg you don’t have in your server that messed up the site? So if you have this updated version (what version is current?) it should be fine? I don’t want to install it until it get’s fixed first or until i know more details about it. Thanks.

  7. Hi this version does no good to “Go Google Plus theme” so it must be reviewed because afichager not well thank you to check all

  8. Nice release, but if I may get some directions.

Where would be the best place to file a bug report for the messages plugin (Platform version 1.7.3 (build 8710))

  9. Dear oxwall… I want start Social site like Facebook,… so please tell me what i have to do to get a full fledged software, of yours on my name,,and, also, i need updated Chat (both video and image transfer like Facebook… so please, tell me the cost and time to develop it,

  10. I want to know if oxwall is selling our info to third parties, I have around 4 or 5 fake profiles a week that I have to delete as they are putting up blogs to some crap their selling on another website, and 90% of these people are from India. I believe oxwall is selling my website and info because I do not advertise my site as it is for my club members that want to keep their info private.

    • We do not sell any information about our users to anyone. My best guess about this is Oxwall websites are easy to discover by certain “footprint” in Google, and it’s a fact that there are a lot of spammers specializing in Oxwall. If you have ideas about other ways somebody could get your information, please let me know. This is not a topic to take lightly.

  11. Hey i just installed the new version and it didn’t fix the problem with Photo Browse gap fixes for IE. It has been a problem and it says in the log that it’s fixed. There are still sporadic gaps like big gaps for photo browse spacing…………In firefox and chrome you don’t see that problem. Thanks.
